What is spiritual peace and how can I get it?
Do you really know what peace means and how to get this in your life? How is it like an all inclusive holiday? Beccy Riley explains...
Have you ever been on an all inclusive holiday or to a buffet where you can eat all you want and it's all included? Breakfasts are my particular favourite.
Once when I was pregnant, my husband and I stayed in a hotel with a buffet breakfast. I had eaten a couple of plates of bacon and eggs, sausages, beans, mushrooms, toast and all the great food and I said, "you know, I think I'm going to go up again." He just looked at me and shook his head in disbelief! I love these sort of things. Even if there's free refills, it fills my heart with joy! There's no worries about cost, you can have all you want without having to overthink and you just concentrate on having a wonderful time.
The Hebrew word for peace is shalom, meaning completeness, soundness and welfare. It comes from the root word shalam, meaning to make amends or to make whole or complete.
To have shalom means to be in a state of wholeness or completeness, without any deficiency or lack.
In John 14:27 Jesus says,
úI leave the gift of peace with youîmy peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don't yield to fear or be troubled in your heartsîinstead, be courageous!
The peace we are given by Jesus is like an all inclusive holiday but over your whole self and life - he gives peace making you whole, complete without deficiency or lack. As a believer of Jesus, it's already yours, your ticket has been paid for! No need to worry, no need to fear! This is a great reminder when we can be tempted to fear or be troubled. Don't give into that temptation - be courageous and walk in the peace the Jesus has over you today. It's all inclusive over you. He sees you, he knows you, he cares about you and he provides all you need in every area.
Take a moment to thank God for this gift and accept it afresh today.
Thank you Jesus for your gift of peace. Thank you for the wholeness and completeness you give freely and right now I remember this gift and I accept peace again today.
